Assistant Principal - Mountain Rose Academy

Destiny Grant

Ms. Grant  graduated from Desert View High School and moved on to the University of North Florida, earning her Bachelor’s in English and her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. Ms. Grant has been in education for ten years, this being her fifth year with Rose. Before education, Ms. Grant spent time working in the aviation and in the medical fields. In her spare time, Ms. Grant loves to read and spend time with her family at the lake.

Kelly Hurtado

Dr. Kelly Hurtado leads the schools as Superintendent. She relentlessly pursues quality in a learning community that serves the customers – the students & their families through the school professionals - principals, teachers, & clerks. Dr. Hurtado has been with the Rose Academies since its inception in 1999. She has held many positions within the organization from grants manager to principal. In 2010, Dr. Hurtado was recognized for her leadership and contributions to education through Arizona Daily Star’s 40 under 40 awards. Her academic credentials include a M.A. in Educational Leadership and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction.

Jennifer Haley

Principal - Mountain Rose Academy

Jennifer Haley

Ms. Haley is a native Tucsonan and brings 16 years of experience in public K-12 education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northern Arizona University. In addition, Ms. Haley has a Masters of Arts in Reading and Curriculum, and a Masters in Special Education, and a third in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University; she is finishing her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and is a highly qualified teacher in English, Reading and Special Education. She is eager to ensure all students are successful and reaching their potential at Mountain Rose Academy. “I am excited to provide a learning environment and community that our students take pride in and an environment where students are comfortable to complete their goals.


Michael Baun

Assistant Superintendent

Michael Baun, Assistant Superintendent of these Tucson charter schools

Mr. Baun arrived at the Rose Academies, a Tucson charter schools, in 2005 after spending 17 years in a business environment. Prior to that, Mr. Baun earned degrees in Philosophy and Liberal Studies. Beginning as Assistant Principal in the fall of 2006, Mr. Baun has been principal at each of the Rose Academies. He is currently working on a second master’s degree, a M.A. in Educational Leadership. In July, 2014, he began his duties as Assistant Superintendent. Mr. Baun is eager to develop advanced techniques to better serve staff, students and families at the Rose Academies.

Shannon Pfleiderer

Director of Curriculum & Instruction

Shannon Pfleiderer

Mr. Pfleiderer navigates the curricular waters of student needs, teacher professional development, and state requirements while fulfilling the ROSE PROMISE. He believes every student can be academically successful through the provision of a robust curriculum, the individualization of instruction, and the implementation and practice of effective student academic routines. In his pursuit of Honoring the Promise of Education, he has been a teacher, lead teacher, curriculum resource teacher, curriculum coordinator, and a curriculum and program developer. His multi-faceted background includes military service, business management, small business ownership, and church service. He earned his Bachelor of Science Business Information Systems and Master of Arts in Secondary Education degrees from the University of Phoenix.

Lisa Wasko-Cothrun

Lisa Wasko-Cothrun

Ms. Cothrun is a Tucson native and a longtime member of the Rose family. After graduating from Canyon Del Oro High School, she attended the University of Arizona. Ms. Cothrun earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Spanish, a Master of Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix and a second Master of Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Outside of school, Lisa loves to spend time with her family, shop, and watch movies.


Joanne Vigilant

Joanne Vigilant

Born and raised in the Virgin Islands, Ms. Joanne Vigilant comes to Rose with over 22 years of experience in the education field. Joanne holds Master’s degrees in Educational Leadership, Education and Psychology. Her experience working with young people and families ranges from teacher, Family and Marriage Therapist, school counselor and principal. She is proud to be part of the Rose community as principal of Pima Rose Academy and, along with her team, work vigilantly to fulfill the Rose mission of honoring The Promise of Education for our students.


Christopher Golston

Principal - Canyon Rose Academy

Christopher Golston

Mr. Golston is a native Tucsonan and comes to the Rose Academies with 15 years of experience in public K-12 education, and has worked in the fields of case management and behavioral health. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and African American Studies from the University of Arizona. In addition, Mr. Golston has a Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Relations from Northern Arizona University; he is finishing his K-12 administrative coursework from Arizona State University and is a highly qualified teacher in history. He is currently completing coursework towards certification as a licensed professional counselor. “I’m eager to work with the Rose Academy team and motivate Canyon Rose students toward their desired goals.”


Steven Korzan

Assistant Principal - Canyon Rose Academy

Steven Korzan, an Assistant Principal of one Tucson charter schools campus

Mr. Korzan is a native of Cleveland, OH and has taught English in several public schools In Tucson before becoming an Assistant Principal with the Rose Academies, Tucson charter schools. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a Minor in Business from Bowling Green State University. In addition, Mr. Korzan has a Master’s of Science in Teaching from The University of Dayton and a Master’s of Education in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. He has also worked on classes towards an Educational Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership focusing on building trust in the workforce. Mr. Korzan is very excited for this opportunity to work at Canyon Rose Academy and to “Honor the Promise of Education” in the goals that the students have set up for themselves.


Lisa Corkill

Lisa Corkill

Ms. Corkill is a Tucson native with over 12 years of experience in education with five years with the Rose Academies. She earned her Bachelor of Arts with a major in Political Science and minor in History from the University of Arizona. She returned to school for teacher certification in 2000 and completed her Master of Arts in Education Administration and Supervision in 2008. She is excited for the new school year at Canyon Rose Academy- East Campus as the Assistant Principal.


Tani Hough

Special Education Director

Tani Hough, Special Education Director at our charter schools in Tucson

Tani Hough brings to the Rose Academies, charter schools in Tucson, 17 years of experience of working with individuals with Special Needs. Tani has extensive knowledge and background in Applied Behavior Analysis with an emphasis in Autism. Tani earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in History from Portland State University. In addition she earned a degree in (Cross-Categorical) K-12 Special Education from City University in Bellevue, Washington. Tani is a highly qualified teacher in Special Education. I am excited to work as the Director of Special Education and enhance the learning of all students, especially those with unique learning needs.


Rick Ellis

Assistant Principal - Desert Rose Academy

Rick Ellis

Mr. Ellis comes to Rose Academy with over 20 years in public education. He has been a teacher, Student Council Adviser , Associate Principal, as well as a Varsity coach for golf, men’s and Women’s Volleyball, as well as Women’s soccer. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Oregon. In addition, Mr. Ellis has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona. He is excited to be joining Desert Rose Academy and looks forward to sharing his experiences with the students.


Kimberly McNally

Principal - Canyon Rose Academy - East

Kimberly McNally

Ms. McNally returns with many years of experience in education to the Rose Academies. Coming to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona, Ms. McNally now calls Tucson home. Ms. McNally earned her Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and Archaeology from the University of Alaska and her Master in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix. Outside of school, Ms. McNally loves to spend time and travel with her family.


Richard Connet

Principal - Desert Rose Academy

Richard Connet

Mr. Connet is from Tucson - graduating from Palo Verde High School before joining the United States Army, where he worked as a military police officer. Mr. Connet earned a Bachelor in Social Psychology from Park University and a Master of Arts in Education at Chapman University. Outside of school, Mr. Connet loves to work in the yard and on his car. Mr. Connet is looking forward to a great year at Desert Rose Academy.


Steve Ramirez

Assistant Principal - Pima Rose Academy

Steve Ramirez

Steve Ramirez is a native Tucsonan who has over 25 years’ experience serving the members of our community in various capacities. His principle background centers in the juvenile justice system where he has held various positions supporting the court and families of at-risk youth. He also has worked for Tucson Unified School District where he supported school administrators and families while assisting youth with career choices. His most recent position was with the Fred G. Acosta Job Corps in various leadership positions including supervision of departments aimed at supporting student success. Mr. Ramirez is committed to assisting youth meet their full potential and become successful members of our community.
