Life at Rose
Life at ROSE is purposeful, collaborative, and centered on students. The Rose Academies are innovative alternative charter high schools offering a blended learning model for students who benefit from individualized support and customized academic pathways – often after traditional school settings were not the right fit. Since 1999, ROSE has been committed to doing school differently and doing it better.
Our mission is to Honor the Promise of Education by:
– Training students in the fundamental skills needed to graduate high school, transition into continuing education or college, and explore career choices.
– Expanding how students learn how to think.
– Creating life options/opportunities for each graduate.
At ROSE, this mission is a shared responsibility. Every role – academic, operational, student support, and leadership – contributes through teaching, educating, and coaching in ways that meet students where they are. Our team works collaboratively, supporting students through relationships, individualized attention, and a collective commitment to helping each student move forward with purpose and confidence.

“I am so grateful to be a member of the Rose Academies community. As a teacher at the Rose Academies, my instructional practices were refined by leveraging the Rose Academies’ robust philosophical and pedagogical framework. The unique, supportive environment at the Rose Academies has been an ideal place to provide students with personalized instruction, strategic tutoring, and small-group support. Resulting in significant student academic growth. This experience reaffirmed our promise of education and strengthened appreciation for a collaborative, professional learning community.”

“I love my job, because it allows me to collaborate with multiple teams across the district and support students who often feel disconnected from traditional education. Working with disenfranchised learners gives me the chance to help them discover their strengths and regain confidence. Our flexible approach and unique instructional schedule make it possible to meet students where they are, build meaningful relationships, and create a supportive learning environment. The connections we form—with both students and staff—are what make this work so rewarding.”

“At Rose, I have enjoyed working with the students and helping them to graduate from high school. I have been inspired by the founders Dr. Kinghorn, Mrs. Kinghorn, and Dr. Kelly Hurtado who taught me everything that I know about being a teacher, educator, and coach. I have grown by being willing to learn new techniques that Rose has taught me and applying all feedback that I am provided by my supervisors. For 20 years, starting from my first day in 2005, Rose treated me like a family member and always supported me in pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher.”
