The Blended Learning Model & How it Benefits Students

In these unprecedented times, the Rose Academies are proud to be in the established position of offering a blended learning model. As more schools move online and parents are put in the difficult position of committing to what learning option is best for their child, we are here to offer flexibility and safety with a model that has been ingrained into the way Rose Academy does high school for decades. Below are some ways a Rose Academy education differs from traditional high schools and is especially beneficial during Covid-19.

First, you can easily change from in-person to online learning and vice versa. Compared to traditional high schools that require a commitment to either in-person or distance learning for the entirety of the semester, the Rose Academies offer the same online curriculum to students whether they’re in-person or fully online, making the transition back and forth seamless.

Second, our teachers are more responsive to virtual inquiries and are ready to help from a distance. At a traditional school, you may wait up to a week to hear back as teachers become overwhelmed with the new and different demands of online learning. At the Rose Academies, online communication and responsiveness has been well established between students and teachers even before the pandemic. With our blended learning model, you can expect to hear back within the day.

Third, you can trust in a normal and consistent class schedule. With many traditional schools opting for new hybrid learning options, class times and alternating week day schedules can get confusing. At the Rose Academies, you can expect your schedule to look the same week to week regardless of whether you’re in-person or online.

And that’s not all! Learn more about how the Rose Academies’ blended learning model is ideal for creating the Covid learning schedule that’s right for you by continuing to explore our website at www.go2rose.com.

How to Graduate Early in Arizona: The Process for High School Students

Graduating high school early in Arizona involves careful planning and a clear understanding of the requirements and opportunities available. By following a structured approach, you can set yourself up for success, whether your goal is to enter college early, join the workforce, or pursue unique experiences.

Meet Arizona’s Graduation Requirements

To graduate high school early in Arizona, you must meet the Arizona Department of Education’s high school graduation requirements, ensuring you complete the necessary coursework and credits. These requirements include:

  • 4 credits in English or English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • 4 credits in Mathematics, including core courses like Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Math
  • 3 credits in Science, covering Biology, Chemistry, or Physical Science
  • 3 credits in History & Social Science, including U.S. History, World History, and Government
  • 1 credit in Fine Arts or Career and Technical Education (CTE)
  • 7 credits in additional which may include electives, physical education, or specialty programs

By completing these required credits and strategically planning your coursework, you can accelerate your graduation timeline while ensuring all academic standards are met.

Develop a Customized Graduation Plan

A successful early graduation plan in Arizona starts with collaborating with your school counselor to create a personalized academic strategy. This plan should outline the specific courses needed, credit acceleration options, and target timelines to keep you on track. Consider enrolling in online courses, summer school, or dual enrollment programs to fast-track your progress while maintaining a balanced and manageable workload.

Early Graduation Programs Offered in Arizona

Arizona offers unique programs designed to help students graduate high school early. Programs like Move On When Ready, charter school pathways, and online learning options provide flexible schedules and accelerated coursework. At the Rose Academies, our early graduation programs are tailored to meet the needs of motivated students, offering supportive environments and structured plans to ensure you meet all academic requirements while preparing for the next step in your educational journey.

Pros of Graduating High School Early in Arizona

Get a Head Start in College or Careers

For students ready to graduate high school early in Arizona, the benefits of getting a head start in college or careers are undeniable. Whether your goal is to enter the workforce sooner or begin college studies early, accelerating your high school graduation can provide a significant advantage. By starting a full-time job earlier, you can save money for future education, build valuable work experience, and develop the independence needed for long-term success.

Choosing to graduate early in Arizona not only sets you on a faster path to achieving your ambitions but also gives you the financial freedom and practical experience that can make a lasting impact on your future.

Academic & Personal Growth

When you graduate high school early in Arizona, you open the door to both academic and personal growth. College courses often offer a faster-paced and more demanding environment compared to high school, providing the challenge and stimulation that many students crave. If you find yourself feeling underwhelmed by high school coursework, graduating early can help you engage with more advanced subjects and gain the confidence needed to thrive in higher education.

Stand Out On College Applications

When you graduate high school early in Arizona, you demonstrate a level of dedication, organization, and time management that can truly impress college admissions directors. Completing your high school credits ahead of schedule showcases your ability to set goals and achieve them, a quality that can make your college application stand out in an increasingly competitive admissions process.

Choosing to graduate early signals to colleges that you are motivated and prepared for the challenges of higher education. This initiative can boost your college prospects, helping you gain an edge over other applicants and potentially unlocking more scholarship and program opportunities.

Cons of Graduating High School Early for Arizona Students

Challenges with College Admissions

While graduating high school early in Arizona offers many advantages, it’s important to consider how it might impact your college admissions process. Many college admissions departments expect to see a traditional four-year high school transcript, with consistent, year-long coursework that reflects a well-rounded education. Before committing to an accelerated graduation plan, ensure that your early graduation aligns with your prospective college’s requirements, so it enhances rather than hinders your chances of acceptance.

Missing High School Experiences

When you graduate high school early in Arizona, you might miss out on memorable high school experiences—from participating in your favorite sports team or chess club to engaging in student government. Graduating early often means stepping away from the social connections and routines that define high school life. Your daily schedule may no longer align with your peers, leading to a sense of disconnect. While graduating early offers many benefits, it’s crucial to weigh whether you’re ready to move on from the high school experience sooner than most.

Difficulties with Transitions

Starting college or full-time work after graduating high school early in Arizona involves more than just completing your high school credits. You’ll face new challenges, including a more demanding schedule, reduced leisure time, and increased responsibilities. The shift to the “real world” requires a high level of independence and adaptability, and it’s important to assess whether you’re prepared for these life changes as you consider an accelerated graduation path.

Rose Academy’s Mastery Grading System: Transparent Policies

In order to graduate from high school, students need to earn 22 credits worth of classes. The Rose Academies utilize a mastery grading system, meaning you’ll need to earn a grade of C or better in your classes in order to pass. The state of Arizona only requires a minimum passing grade of 60% or D, but there are advantages of requiring more from our students which we have highlighted below.

    1. Clear expectations. Mastery grading lends itself to transparency and simplicity so that students have the opportunity to take ownership of their grades. Because a mastery grading system utilizes an easy to understand rubric, students always know where they stand and what’s expected of them in order to earn a certain grade.

    1. A better breakdown on what skills are mastered and which need more work. Unlike a traditional 100 point grading system, mastery grading offers more insight for parents and students as to what areas of a subject need to be improved. For example, rather than receiving a blanket 78% in an Algebra class without further explanation, mastery grading allows a student to see that they have mastered polynomials by 97% but only produce a 42% mastery of quadratic equations. This system allows for more true comprehension of the material and gives students the confidence to know where they need to focus their efforts to improve.

  1. Doing the absolute minimum will only get you so far in life. Requiring a C instead of a D to pass may seem excessive, but at the Rose Academies, we want to prepare our students to be successful in whatever pursuits they choose beyond high school. Whether that’s attending a four-year university, a community college, a trade school, or entering the workforce, we want our students to cultivate an education and skills that will make them competitive among their peers come graduation.

With the advanced opportunities a mastery grading system offers Rose Academy students to learn, we are confident in requiring a little more from their GPA upon graduation. Charter High School for Special Education

America’s public-school systems currently educate more than six million students with disabilities, about nine percent of the school-age population, and nearly one-third of those disabled students are of traditional high school age.

Charter schools, though different in a variety of ways from district schools, are still public schools. That means they are required to provide special education support and services to eligible students.

With the challenges brought on by Covid-19, the Rose Academies have dedicated themselves to providing support services to those who need it.  For students and families who don’t feel online services support their needs, teachers are available in person to provide specialized instruction in a safe, socially distanced environment.  Our schools implement a range of mitigation strategies to ensure student safety and follow all CDC recommendations and guidelines.

Special education services will be offered Monday through Thursday during our normal school sessions times (Morning, Afternoon, & Evening). To learn more and to see if the Rose Academies are a good fit for you and your student, please continue to explore our website at www.go2rose.com.

Charter School Performance Growth for High School Students

Over the last few decades, charter schools have grown both in quantity and popularity, causing some to question the quality of education and the impact charter schools have on the larger community. What makes charter schools different — and do those differences typically lead to an increase or decrease in student performance, test scores, and graduation rates? Here’s what the latest studies show:

Charter schools have outpaced statewide growth of traditional schools, achieving 3 percentage points of growth in English from 2015-2017. For the last three years, public charter students in all racial and ethnic groups outperformed the state average for their group in both Math and English.

Overall students are advancing at a faster pace in charter schools, especially Black students and students from low-income backgrounds. According to a recent Harvard study, eighth-graders attending charter schools achieve academic gains that are 3 months ahead of their district school peers from 2005 to 2017.

It’s important to note that not all charter schools are created equal. Charter schools vary greatly from state to state and school to school. A defining characteristic of charter schools is the requirement to produce a mission statement that embodies the school’s goals and educational ideology. At the Rose Academies, we focus on what high school students want; a small, friendly environment that puts an emphasis on personalized needs. Our unique approach allows students to take control of their academic success today, for the benefit of their future tomorrow.

The Best Way to Study

The Best Way to Study Depends on Your Learning Style

You’ve heard it all by now. Don’t procrastinate, plan ahead, organize your study space, take good notes, and get enough sleep, but what’s really the best way to study? At the Rose Academies, we want to give you all the tools to find your unique study strategy and implement the pieces that work best for you. Below are three study tips that you may not have seen on those other lists!

To know the best way to study, discover your learning style

You may have heard that we all learn differently, but did you know there are actually four main learning styles that most of us identify with? Visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic describe the common leading ways we learn. Typically, we use all four in combination, but it’s likely that one style is more helpful to you than the rest.

Here are examples of what each looks like:

  • Visual: Visual learners learn best by seeing. They respond well to diagrams, color-coding, video, and patterns.
  • Auditory: Auditory learners learn best by listening. They respond well to audio cues like speech, music, rhymes, and other sounds.
  • Reading/Writing: Reading / Writing learners learn best by reading and writing the material they need to study.
  • Kinesthetic: Kinesthetic learners retain information best by doing. They enjoy role-playing, building models, drawing diagrams, and making flashcards. They need to put concepts into practice in the real world.

Once you better understand your learning style, you can apply it to how you study for the best results.

Create a musical connection

In the current state of the world, your study spaces may be looking a bit different these days. One way to help ensure some consistency across study sessions is to pick a style of music or ambient noise to accompany your homework and study time. Classical, instrumental, soundtracks or otherwise non-vocal music is a good place to start to avoid distractions. Then, make sure to never leave home without your headphones! Creating an association between background music and study time means you can experience a studious sanctuary no matter where you are.

Take a tip from Pomodoro for the best way to study

The Pomodoro Technique refers to using a timer to get the most productivity out of your tasks. The classic technique breaks up time into 30-minute sections, with 25 minutes spent focused on the task, and the last five spent taking a break. Supercharge your breaks by taking the time to get up and stretch or walk around and then be ready to get back to work for the next 25. A four-hour study session becomes much more doable when broken up according to Pomodoro!

The best way to study may look different for each of us, but having a full repertoire of helpful tips is a good place to start to find the ones that work for you. At the Rose Academies, we offer flexible scheduling options and support whether at home or in person – for an alternative high school experience as unique as you are. How Do Charter Schools Work?

How Do Charter Schools Work?: A Guide For Parents

Charter schools are unique in that they identify their mission and approach in a document known as the “charter” for their school. The charter explains the management, organization, and achievement standards for the school, as well as how those educational goals will be measured.

While laws vary by state, most charter schools do not have to abide by the same rules and regulations as traditional schools. This allows for a wide range of possibilities for charter schools to forge a new path and create a uniquely successful school. It also means charter schools can look very different depending on the school’s mission and style.

Why choose a charter school?

In the same way that charter schools span a wide range of possibilities and styles, students are unique individuals with their own goals for success. Charter schools are the revolutionary alternative to the traditional public school model. So whether students and parents are interested in avoiding a less than satisfactory experience, or their unique needs fit better with a charter school in their area, there are many reasons to look into charter schools.

Families may choose a charter school for its teachers, management style, facilities, or overall reputation. With the additional autonomy given to charter schools, they are often held to a higher standard since they are required to adhere to their own mission statement and goals for success. The bottom line is that charter schools provide more options for families, and this relatively new education model is serving millions of students successfully in the U.S.

How To Be an A Student: Tips For Success in High School

How to be an A Student in High School: Tips & Strategies

At the Rose Academies, we understand that you have a life outside of school and want you to be able to cultivate success in every area of your life. If straight As is one of your goals, we want you to understand that it is possible to enjoy life now while still earning a stellar report card to afford you more opportunities to enjoy life in the future. To help you along the way, we’re offering the following sure-fire tips on how to be an A student.

Be Organized

Can’t find last week’s bio notes when it comes time to study for your upcoming quiz? Not sure where you put that study guide for your history class? Staying organized can help you to avoid these pitfalls and unneeded stress when it comes time to prepare. Not to mention missing homework assignments! There’s nothing worse than having put the time and effort into an assignment and then being unable to find it when it comes time to turn it in. Don’t let the bottom of your backpack become a graveyard of assignment’s past. Consider a large, three-ring binder divided up by subject, dedicated folders for each class, or a file-folder system. Then, get in the habit of actually using it so you always know where to find the information you need.

Have a Plan

It’s never fun to wait till the last minute to start studying or working on an assignment and it often produces subpar results. To avoid falling into the pitfalls of procrastination, it’s important to always have a plan. Keep track of key dates, upcoming tests, and project deadlines in a planner and consider writing in reminders along the way. For example, rather than just writing “ALGEBRA II MIDTERM” on the exam date that you won’t see until you flip to that week two months from now, write “algebra II midterm in two weeks!” or “algebra II midterm next Wednesday!” on the appropriate dates to keep the upcoming exam fresh in your mind and to give yourself more reminders to start preparing.

Don’t Cram

Speaking of being prepared, utilize your planner, and then actually start putting in the work overtime rather than putting it off. All the organization and planning in the world will only be useful if you also take action. Cramming has consistently been shown to cause unneeded stress and produce worse outcomes than proper preparation spread out over time. There are no gold stars for pulling an all-nighter – and probably no straight As either! Avoid cramming by sticking to your plan and putting in smaller amounts of work overtime to achieve more sleep and better results.

Take care of Yourself

Limit sick days and ensure your brain is in full working order by taking care of your physical health. Do your best to get the rest you need, eat full meals, move your body, and take breaks. There’s no use in achieving your goals if you have to burn yourself out to get there. Missing class makes earning straight As more difficult, and running your body into the ground with late-night cram sessions is a quick way to rack up sick days. Even during study hours, it’s important to take breaks and minimize stress.

Consider taking a walk around the block before the start of each study block, watching a short, uplifting YouTube video when switching subjects, eating a snack, stretching, or even just taking a few deep breaths to keep yourself feeling refreshed, focused, and healthy.
